Debtors Prison

Back in the day, if you owed me money, I could imprison you.  Sure, its mostly illegal today, I can sue you, I can get a judgement against you, but I can't have you arrested, placed in a sweatshop to pay me the judgement and the cost of having you be there.  But, its still legal, its still in use, it is still happening, everyday in the United States.

The working poor.

I am trying to get back into the swing of things, I am mending up nicely, working on a few odds and end things, trying to get money up for the poor stray cat that I fished out of the cesspool this past winter.  Some prick actually had the nerve to shoot him with an air rifle.  If you are going to do something like that, be kind, make sure the animal doesn't suffer.

Prick of the week (4-20)

So, this week I thought the prick of the week would be Cliven Bundy, racist moocher extraordinaire...  But no, it seems Mitch McConnell edged him out, just due to a single statement.  To my dear friends in Kentucky, this ones for you.

Go to college or...

Ah, the good ole days.  Right out of high school, you could go somewhere, get a job, work your way up in the world.  Or if you were smart enough, you could go to college, come out of college get a job, work your way up in the world.  Such a simpler time, you could have a decent life with just a high school diploma.  Alas, now, you going to need at least a BA/BS degree, and in the near future a Master's Degree of some kind.

Who here remembers watching Fight Club.  The ultimate goal of the lead characters, to put everyone on a level playing field once again.  Yeah, its not really that feasible, I mean they have so many copies of things, that within a month or two everything would be humming along as it does now.

We have a serious problem in the United States.  It is crumbling beneath us.   It is literally falling apart.  The slow decay of time, use, and abuse, without modification, repairs, or outright rebuilding.  As of 2013, last year the United States had what is considered a failing grade.  If you are interested it was a D+.
